Since the 78 model was the last year they put SOHC on the 750F's I am wondering if it is possible to put the ignition system off a 79 or later DOHC on it. replacing the points etc.

78 was the last your for the 750 sohc. the 650 went to 82 but used something similar to the 750 dohc for ignition.

As for transplanting, my guess is you will need the whole unit from a dohc and may need to rig up an adaptor or mod the shaft. May just be better off with a dyna-s or a boyer-bransden if a stock engine. If you got it modded, then a dyna-2000 or a cycle-x optical ignition.

I use a dyna s and just keep the points plate to take with on long trips, just in case.

Thank you Re-run I realy didnt want to spend that kind of $ on it. I'd rather know that what I was thinking is probably going to run just as much.

Well at z1enterprizes, a dyna s is $120.
Replacing good points is about $40 a crack.
I wont say you cant fit the cdi from a dohc but I have no idea how hard it would be.

Thats why I was asking. I would need to buy the parts to do it and then make it work. My 750F runs like a top. It runs better than my Ninja does and has allot more HP. Oh how had is it to resleev the juggs?
If I do try to do this I'll post what is needed to be done if it can be done.
