I can see that the springs are not progressively wound, so they could be stock. That piece you asked about is not a wear item, so it should be fine. The bearings should be a little more then finger tight, I would repack them, and set them with some pre-load. I do notice a lot of wear on your fork tubes. It looks like they had been run dry for some time. How do the bushings look that go between the tubes, and slider?

I assume by bushing you mean this.  I don't see it in the diagram.  Is it removable?  Also when reading the fork rebuild thread on cb750c by Frank he mentions have to pull extremely hard to remove the slide tube.  And in the past when I rebuilt forks I've had the same problem but these basically just fell out.  I'm not sure if I'm missing something or what.

Or is the bushing in under the seal in the lower section of forks like this?  I have not removed the seal yet.  I've had this bushing on other forks but not sure about these.

The top two do not come out, but the bottom picture is of one of the bushings. There should be another one at the bottom also.

Which part number is it in this diagram?  I don't see a bushing anywhere.

I am not seeing it either. I would swear the DOHC K model forks I have had apart had them.

I just did a search, and the 81-82 have the bushings.

I'm trying to find a rebuild thread of other forks similiar to mine.  It looks like cb650 and older cb750 forks are the same.  CB900 forks are different.

I think on mine it is kind of built into the upper fork tube.  If you look closely in my pictures you can see a ridge in to bottom of the fork tube also there is a small cavity that would allow fork oil to pass through the upper fork tube in this ridge if I remember correctly.  It's definitely different.

Yes yours are very similar to the earlier CB 750 forks. I did a write up on rebuilding forks in "My Buddies POW/MIA Bike" thread. It should be in the build section.

Got the forks back together.  Everything has been powdercoated and the tank has been painted.  I'm going to attempt to run pods.  I don't have everything back together yet so I'm not sure how its going to run.  I was planning on running gsxr carbs and I Still may but in these pics I have the stock carbs mounted with the gsxr K&N filters mounted to them using the stock carb to filter box boots inside.  But here she is as of today.  Still need to make a new seat and finish up the wiring.  I'm waiting on a new battery to arrive.  I've got to get some better pictures with something better than my iphone but here they are anyway.

I've been swamped lately and not keeping up with the build threads as much as I'd like to. You come a loooong way! Congrats to you bud.

Is that one giant pod that connects all four carbs?

It's 2 separate filters that connect only two carbs together. I used K&n filters ru-2922 with the stock carb to box boots. I'm more than likely going to use 80 and 120 jets for the carbs but I haven't tested this yet so currently I do not know how it's going to run

Made some progress on the battery box last night. I bought a sheet of 22ga steel from Lowes and took some measurements. Threw together cad drawing at work and printed it. Cut out some cardboard for a test fit and made some adjustments and ended up with this. I like it. I still need to either paint or powder it black. I have some black electrical tape on it in the pics so I did scratch the frame while moving it in and out of place.

That is really nice. I have seen so many people try to mount the battery up in the seat over the rear tire, only to have the tire hit on whatever they made to hold the battery. "Form needs to follow function" not the other way around.

I decided to try the stock air box and go back to factory jetting because I was having a hard time getting the bike to start when it was cold and actually I've never really had a chance to ride the bike in stock form.  Also I sort of completed the seat.  I'm not really happy with the way it turned out because I did not get the fabric tight enough.  But with this being my first real from scratch sewing experience it turned out ok.

Here is a pic from yesterday.  




I need to get the front wheel balanced or straightened or something.  The front of the bike seems to bounce still.  I recently bought a truing stand from harbor freight.  The rim doesn't really seem to be that off but it definitely needs some work.  I kind of think maybe it the tire and its not seated correctly or something.  I don't know what the problem is.

You could have a flat spot on the tire.

It's a brand new tire.  Plus when riding I can look down at the front tire and see the movement in it.
