800+ hours complete 1978 CB750F restoration w/ 600 orig miles !!!

shabbabear
ok guys...here it is...a 1000% complete nut and bolt restoration of my 1978 HONDA CB 750F SUPERSPORT. i spent over 12 years looking and looking and finally found this one on ebay with 432 original miles. i bought it from the original owner in West Virginia who stated he never left the city with the bike and had not ridden it for the last 26 years due to a back injury he sustained in 1982...i completely disassembled the entire bike to over 1000 pieces...yes even split the cases and 100% rebuilt the motor, trans, even the original drive chain is still on...every single nut, blot washer, clamp, wire tie was cleaned, blasted, refinished in factory paint and so on. the drive chain alone soaked for 9 months in oil and then cleaned by hand for 39 hours with picks and brass brushes...36 coats of brazilian white carnauba polish and 35 coats of white carnauba hand rubbed wax are on it. and on and on...every single factory sticker is perfect...just thought you fellow cb750 guys would enjoy the pics...so enjoy...shabbabear750f.zip

hey blackhawk....been reading a lot of your posts and seems as though you know your stuff so getting kudos from you is a privilege sir...ok so i got the bike in may 2005 after literally looking for close to 20 years...i am 47...i work in the motorcycle industry and still had that much of a wait to find a really sweet one to re-do...i spent actually probably well in excess of 1000 hours over 2 plus years...i did it in memory to my dad...who is still alive but had one when i was a kid...but he still prefers his honda pc800...not sure if i'll sell it or ride it more...but it is truly 1000000000% in mint condition with not one nick, cut, scratch, scar, no excuses no stories...even a rep from honda who is 63 and acme to our dealership said they weren't that perfect when they were made brand new in 1978....i seriously, and i'm not being weird or cocky, but i seriously doubt there is another in the world this new and clean...even the barber museum doesn't have one even near this perfect...we'll see....shabbabear

well thanks, I always worry I am not steering people the right way its hard when all you get is a couple sentence description of whats wrong with someone elses bike. Im 24 and am totally intoxicated with motorcycles, completely self taught and always willing to dig in deeper and figure out how to do things I've never done. Its good to see some activity on this forum. What part of the country you from?

thinking of selling my beloved mint, immaculate, flawless, perfect 78 CB750F....want $6500.00...am i crazy ??? ....i have invested my heart and soul into this one my friends..i think its a great deal since i seriously doubt there is another even remotely close to originality and mint condition...and yes i have clear title and yes the tennessee title i hold can be traced to PROVE i am only the second owner from the original gentleman from west virginia where the bike was also originally purchased...any opinions from my fellow experts ????. selling because i just don't ride it that much...i own four collector cars and four other bikes and with kids they much prefer the cars to go as a group anywhere...my email is billgash@comcast.net if interested in offers. i find it virtually assured there is not another one anywhere in existence this original and perfect. thanks for the read guys.

The bike looks great. I have a 77 supersport and I have a few questions if you dont mine. I noticted that the exhaust had been changed and the motor appeared to be gloss black instead of satin black. Do you like the new exhaust better and can you tell me the color and type of paint used because I like it and I cannot find the original color.

Thanks for yor time

Re: 800+ hours complete 1978 CB750F restoration w/ 600 orig miles !!!

shabbabear
hi sir, yes the exhaust is a period correct kerker 4 into 1  system...i still had the stock system as well. as for the motor it is pj1 satin black motor paint available at any cycle shop...the paint code for this is an EXACT match to the stock honda engine paint used for many years to include 1978 cb750f models sir. only difference is that you probably have noticed my cam covers are black and that is NOT a mistake !!!. the last 235 black cb750f models imported into the us in 1978 had the australian cam covers on them from the factory...no difference in performance or anything else...story is honda ran out of silver cam covers for the us market (all hondas were still made and exported from japan in 1978) and threw on the asian market models covers which were done in black. true story is i actually worked at a honda dealer in tennessee as  a kid when we actually got one of these in in late spring 1978 so i know it happened at honda...just dont know if the aussie connection is the reason...if your vin for a black model 1978 f model is one of the last 235 imported then you will have the all black engine pieces as mine does in the pics...hope this helps...shabbabear

Hi, My name is Tony. I have the same bike, 1978 CB750F Supersport that I am currently restoring. I am, however, encountering difficulties locating some parts I need. Would you be able to assist me in finding them if possible? I have had this bike since 1978. I would love to restore it to it's original condition. I really like the job you done on restoring yours. Please reply as soon as possible, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
