81 750K Brake

jbrightwell
I finally got my rear brake "unfroze" by emersing the hub completely in penetrant for about a week, didnt need heat.  On to next question:  The fuel inlet tube, which sticks up between carbs 1 and 2:  Should that be loose?  To the point that you can move it forward and backward about 3/8 ''?  This would be the tube that the fuel hose connects to.  Maybe this is normal but couldnt exess air be sucked in at that location?  Bike is not running yet so cant say there is a problem but trying to eliminate potential problems.  Thanks ALL and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The O-rings on that fuel inlet tube will likely leak if there's a lot of movement. Mine leaks when it drys out (like when I turn the fuel off and the bike sits for a few weeks) but they seem to swell up and seal once fuel hits them.

If the bike sat long enough for the brake to freeze like that then I imagine you'll need to rebuild those carbs so get a complete set of O-rings for the fuel rail and split the rack. There's a guy on the DOHC forum who sells O-ring sets http://cb750c.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=13525.
(you'll need to join the site to see the post I think). I got a set from him. I haven't bothered to put them in yet because I think fire under my ass is cool and I'm an idiot.

P.S. You'll want to read this carb cleaning manual too - http://www.cb750c.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=13611

It is supposed to move, so do not worry too much about it, unless it leaks gas. As for sucking air, and creating a running problem there is no way this part could do that.

Ok thanks rich and Tools.  The bike has sat for 4 years, long enough to get dirty carbs but not as long as some of the bikes posted on here.  Carbs 3 and 4 were pretty clean , 2 was a little dirty and 1 had quite a bit of gunk in it.  I can only assume that the bike was left on the side stand and everything drained that way.  I soaked and proded and cleaned and ran fine wire thru everything like the book says so that this spring it should be ready to fire.  Todays temp is 4.
