Bought a 81 cb 750f early Jan. 2013. It had been sitting in a shop since 96, so for obvious reasons it wasn't running when I bought it. Been working on a general tune up since. Being new to all this, it's been taking awhile. Cleaned the carbs and just reinstalled them today (finally). Getting new tires, chain, sprockets, the usual. The gas tank on the bike was full of gas that had been sitting since 96 so it was nice and slushy. Thankfully the guy who sold it to me included another tank so I'm getting that cleaned out with Evaporust. Unfortunately, I found out today that the petcock that was on the old tank doesn't fit on the new one... bummer. I ordered a new one that should be arriving within the next week. I'll be posting pics of my progress shortly.

Welcome to the forum.  Jellied gas brings back memories of cleaning my Shadow carbs 3 times before the bike even thought about running. #shudder. Take it slow, and you'll be fine.  One caution: IF you choose to use starting fluid to start your bike, do NOT use too much or too often. It is notorious for doing bad things to the inside of your engine. Try to get it running on gas alone.

Note that the petcocks changed almost every damn year, so hopefully the one you ordered fits.
