'81 Rear Fender Removal

I'm considering removing my rear fender on my '81 cb750K in hopes to streamline the rear end a bit. I've seen pictures of it done, such as this:



BUT that bike has no running turn signals or tail lights. I want to leave the rear grab bar attached, so I don't have to worry about turn signals. I'm hoping that there's a relatively easy way to remove the rear fender and still be able to attach my tail light and license plate mount somewhere under the seat or to the back of the frame. Does anyone know an easy way to do this without having to do some welding? Are there any kits or compatible tail lights for this set up? Is this all together a bad idea? I'm looking for any and all feedback.

Here's what my bike currently looks like:

Bolt the turn signals directly to the frame where the grab bar mounted, and then mount the taillight/license plate to the side with a bracket that bolts on the axle.

I bought one of these LED setup off ebay. You'd have to find somewhere to drill two holes to mount it.They are super bright! There are several different style if you search around and usually you can find them as cheap as $20 w/free shipping. They are tail,brake,turn and tag light with a tag plate all in one.

search universal motorcycle tail light. They call these the intergrated tail light.

Btw,that is a sweet looking setup on that seat.Very cool!

I'd like take the stock tail light off of the fender and attach it. I've got the turn signals on the frame but no clear way to attach the tail light to the frame. Do you guys know of any manufactured bracket or system? I can just fabricate something, but a more reliable manufactured bracket would be ideal.

I have that on my 81F it just bolts to the top of my rear fender instead of lower like yours. My seat set up is different too i believe. The tail light sits  underneath the cowl

Do you know if the f frame is identical to the K? I am betting it is, so if he got a hold of an f seat and plastic he could just bolt it on.

Btw, how are the pods running on the cv carbs? Genuinely curious, not trying to be a jerk.
What jetting and shimming setup are you using?

funny you should mention that! I took them off actually they're sitting in a box near my bike. Got the stock airbox back for it and it even had a K& N filter so just clean and go. I did find a website where jetting these was discussed with some experience/knowledge. http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/597224-cb750f-jetting-for-pods/

I think the F frame is just a little longer than the K. I could be wrong, but if anyone has the haynes manual I'm pretty sure its in there.

I ended up taking the rear fender completely off and getting a little creative with this idea. In the end I used the taillight bracket off of an '85 nighthawk. I flipped it upside down and reverse mounted it so I could retrofit the light and plate just behind the seat. I like the look. Really trimmed down that ass end.





By completely removing the rear chrome fender, I haven't changed anything structurally with the rear part of the frame have I?

I also have the plastic fender cover for the bracket I plan on trimming down and fitting around the taillight so I can hide the visible ribbing on the sides.

Good idea! And you're fine without that fender. It's just a splash guard,nothing structural.

Here's what it looks like today with the finished cover piece I flipped and chopped. Works pretty well considering it's upside down Nighthawk parts.





Thanks for all your suggestions guys! Definitely still would like to replace the big blocky stock turn signals. Know I can find bullets to mount off the sides of the headlight bucket up front. Anyone know of custom smallish rear signals that will mount like the DOHC's stock ones?

You can grind the tab off and mount the same bullet ones. That's what I did.
