82 cb750 runs rough.

Mud-moneky
Ok, here it goes ladies and gents.  I just picked up a 82 cb750 as a commuter bike for work.  When I bought it it had been sitting for a while but only had 15,000 miles on it.  Wouldn't start so I swiped it up for 200 bucks.  Got it running the same day.  Removed carbs, cleaned the
, checked all passageways and made sure gas flowed. Changed the plugs and put new wires on, made sure I had good spark.  And finally changed air filter and all fuel lines.  Tank has no rust in it and has new gas with sea foam in it.  She pops off and idles on her own, but barely.  Adjusted the idle screw and it helped a little.  Bottomed out the mixture screws and backed them out to 2 1/2 turns.(went less and more, but this is where the bike seemed to like it the most.) she will rev up slowly, but if you snap the throttle she bogs way down.  I checked all the diaphragms in the carbs and they all seemed good.  Checked for leaks with carb cleaner and there seem to be none. I'm kind of lost at what to do now.  Any ideas?  I just want her running good so I can enjoy the nostalgia and my dad gave me my first ride on one in 96.  Thanks for any help guys!

Carb cleaner will not always show vacuum leaks, try starting fluid, or a propane torch (not lit.) That will show vacuum leaks! And that is most likely what you have, but you could still have some plugged pilot jets.

We did try stating fluid but not the propane method.  And with the fluid it had no effect on idle or how it was running.  So I'm positive I have no leaks on the engine side boots.  However I'll double check the rear set once I'm done with work.  Would the intake side boats cause it to run rough with a small leak?  Also anywhere else I could check for leaks. I was able to take it for a spin around the block, but it's really boggy until about 37-4200. And also when taking off in first you really gotta give her some throttle and ride the clutch till it's going a little bit.  Thanks!

I think I'll hang the hat on dirty jets. Did you pull all of them out? Some times they don't come clean with just carb spray and compressed air. Once in a while you need to actually use a wire to clean them out. A #1 E guitar string works well. A strand of copper wire. I got myself a jet cleaner from my honda dealer. The fuel and whatever in your carbs can harden up and it needs more persuasion than carb spray can give it.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

I pulled every jet known to man on the carb and they all were free flowing once I got done with them.  I'm usually pretty good at these things as I do it often, usually with cars, but I have done a few bikes, but the wife of upset I spend more time with the bike so I'm trying to get it done asap

Dirt in the fuel system could have clogged them again. Also a leak at the airbox side boots does not affect the running as much. Now if you have installed pods, that's a whole nother story.

Hmm. I think I may have found the culprit.  When I first tore into the bike I saw someone had gone into it before me.  Me being the trusting person I am figured that everything was correct just dirty.  So I dissassembled and laid out just as I took it out.  Figuring once again everything is correct and in the proper place.  Reassembled the same as it came out.  Today I discovered that cylinder 3 carb.  The carb I've been having issues getting proper fuel to, had the 68 jet in place of the 102 and vice versa.  So I grabbed a beer, cursed my trusting nature and sat down to write you all this message in the hopes that I'm not the only dill weed that should double check other people's work.  I'll keep you posted as to how it goes.  Thanks and wish me luck

I am really at my whits end here guys.  Switched those jets around. Set all the mixture screws, threw them back in and now she barely fires and won't run without choke. Does if you even think about touching the throttle.  Checked for vacuum leaks with starting fluid and nothing. Propane nothing. Changed plugs checked wires made sure I had spark and still nada.  Fuel, air, spark. What's my next step

Underneath your pilot jet there is an emulsifier tube. It needs to be removed and cleaned, too. Same with the primary main, there is another emulsifier tube, or nozzle, as Honda calls it. Total pain in the neck to get out sometimes. Also, are the rubber jet plugs on place over the primary main jet? If not, the primary main can get too much fuel and easily flood the bike. Wait...you said choke helped, so probably not that... I'd take a look underneath your pilot jets.

Surprisingly all the jets and tubes cd out without any cussing.  Haha.  But I took the emulsifier tubes out and they were cleaned as well.  And the rubber caps are holding strong.

Well, that's great, cos those tubes are horrible sometimes. Sorry, I don't have any other ideas at the moment. Aren't CV's great?
