Make sure it is charging. A lot of guys install an externally mounted alternator on their bikes when the stator goes out. You can get bolt on kits to do this.

Thats a 1200 - No reverse.
The two camshaft timing belts MUST be replaced if it's not known when they were last done, even if they look brand new. This is an interference motor and valves WILL hit pistons if a belt lets go.

BUT that if I can come up with the cash to go ahead and look for a newer bike (I'm still wondering where my wife is  )

On a Gold Wing that was just getting broken in. I have seen them with 300K miles and still going strong. However, if I were looking for a larger more comfortable two-up bike I would get a Honda ST100-1300. Those are GREAT bikes! I have friends that have them and have ridden them. I prefer them over Gold Wings.

I agree with Tools on the ST1100. i've ridden a few for work and they are superb. They handle brilliantly, have masses of power, super comfortable and.... the mirrors give the best rear view of any bike I've ridden.

would up looking at a Kawi Vulcan 1600 Nomad . . . from afar. was on holidays out west when I saw it here; had someone go look at it and he would have put a deposit on it for a week but someone else was going to look at it and had a pocket full of cash and rode it away.
