!978 cb750 Project bike

evill006

I just bought this scooter and am sicked to get into it and create something more aestheticly pleasing, a beastly scooter that I can be trully proud to own and ride. Dirty/greassy hands are a apersonal atribute and part of my perenial state. I m an automotive repair collicion tech and painter by day and a devoted University student by night. I am a Political Science and History of North America major at the University of California at Riverside. Riding is my release and have been doing so since i got my first motorbike at the age of 9.
I look forward to the building process. Although i know my way around the shop pretty well, I m positive that I'll need the benefit of this commmunity's experience and advise from time to time during the build, as this is the bike i restore/rebuild/destroy. All help will be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome. We can always use more members! Looks like you got a hodge podge of K and F parts there. Mainly f with a K engine it looks like.
As long as you know you will get dirty, you will do just fine.

Aside from electrical, that is the hardest part to work on it seems.
It looks like you pulled the idle jets. Good thing there. Clean every part of the carbs like you are going to drink from them and then clean them again.
Lots of people do not do this the first time or even few times and learn it the hard way.

I must have spent about 6  hours dipping and cleaning, not includinng the teardown and assembly. Time well spent! They look pretty decent, we'll just have to wait and see how they perform.

A lot of time, depending on how long they have sat, you need to run brushes through the passages and other areas. In the jets, a strand of copper wire works great to clean those tiny holes.

I noticed that you removed the front fender. It works ok but I might suggest a fork brace. These old forks are kinda flimsy without one. Many just pop the rivets on the front fender and use the mount as the brace as that is part of its function.
