A Little Help On the Rebuild-Exhaust System

sharky15
I am well into my rebuild of a 1972 CB750 and I running into a few road blocks.  I'm going to need to do something about my exhaust system to dress the bike up, there is rust on the mufflers of my pipes.  Currently the bike has the four different pipes and other than the rust holes they are intact.  So the easy solution is new pipes but I cannot afford that option.  So my question is two fold-If I cut the pipes off and shorten them to being cut right after the back bracket will I need to rejet the bike?  Is there a cheap option of what I can do for exhaust?

So you have stock 4-4's?  Are they rusted through or just some rust spots?

If you cut the muffler part off you'll essentially be running open pipes so you would have to re-jet to make it run right (it'll also be _very_ loud).

I can't think of a cheap option that is going to look good.

If you cut the exhaust pipes off they need some kind of support besides the place where they come out of the cylinder heads.

If the intake system is completely stock all you will need is a mixture adjustment. No re- jetting.

Now about the loudness problem.
You could run two exhausts into shorty muffler on each side of the bike.

OR... You could get a slip - on muffler for each pipe. That is NOT expensive.

Do you have a link to buy either of those options for cheap?
