Case Savers

icerigger
Anybody else think case savers are a pita when it comes spring time.

The ones I have won't let me get the timing or rotor covers off. In order to check the timing or adjust the valves I have to get the covers off. But to get the covers off, I have to remove the case savers. But the case savers are held on by the lower engine thru bolt which I can't get to unless I remove the exhaust, both sides.

AAAAARRRGGGHHH!!

Just venting. Allergies have got to my middle ear and I won't be able to ride for a few weeks.

Yep, they're good things to have if you go down and I'm keeping them on, but I still curse them every time I have to do anything that needs the covers off.

I understand your pain, but mine kept my bike off of my leg, in two different low-sides; the bike actually accelerated away from me, and we were both sliding across blacktop!  Mental pain and aggravation, or physical pain and aggravation, piled on top of medical bills, surgery, and possible...

I hear ya', they're a necessary evil.  Relax, have a beer, and good luck finding that particular wrench/socket when you really need it.    Cheers!

I have the same problem, with the case saver bars stopping me from getting the cover off. To turn the motor over when doing the valve clearances, I put it on the centre stand, put it in 5th gear, and turn the back wheel by hand. Much quicker and easier than removing and replacing the bars.

Now you tell me!

Just did the valves this morning, got her back together and came in to read this handy tip. Oh well, at least it'll come in handy next year.
