Advice on whether this is a good deal/questions to ask

D-Train
Hey!  I have been looking for a 70s honda to restore and customize as a project.  I ran across this bike:  http://bham.craigslist.org/mcy/3669484857.html and I was wondering what you guys thought about this deal. I also would appreciate any advice, particularly advice specific to CB750s, on questions I should ask the owner.  Is there any easy way to determine which 750 model this is?

Does the trail 70 come with it? If it runs, and has a title it is worth $600.00. However you can always offer less. On that model I would check the charging system. They go bad a lot.

Looks like a good deal from my house.

If it runs good with no clanking grinding or any thing. Make sure it has a title and ride it home.

Thanks!  I've emailed the owner.  Most of the research I've done has been into the smaller CBs and CLs, so I don't know as much about this bike.

If it has a title I'd jump on it with both feet. I'd offer less, but if it really does run good and the chain and tires look OK I wouldn't feel bad giving the full $600 for it.

Definitely check the charging system! Just put a meter across the battery terminals and rev to bike to around 3,ooo rpm. See if the voltage rises and how much if it does. Optimum is ~14-14.5 volts. If you dont have access to a meter at least check and see if the headlight brightens when revved. From what I understand (and I could be wrong) it costs around $200 to go through on of those charging systems. Could be a good bargaining chip in your favor.

Good luck!
