Another project. Making a tubing bender and dies.

I bought this piece of 1 1/8" DOM tubing the other day.


However I need to put a nice bend in it, so I picked up this chunk of steel.


So now to find a way to wrap this piece ot tube around this chunk of steel without kinking it.

After some work with a grinder, half-round file, and some of the Diamond Paper that Ichibon Moto uses (man that stuff does work).



That chunk of steel now looks like this.

I have gotten some more done on this project.
I laid out for the holes and started drilling them.



I took this piece of steel and started to make the follower die.




I have also started to build the frame of the bender.

Are you aware that dies aren't half-circle, but they are oval shaped?

What did you use to cut that hole in the follower?

What?How are they oval shaped? Are you reffering to the grove for the tube, or the circumference? I machined the bore in the piece using my 4 jaw chuck on the lathe. Now I am going to cut it in half and weld the two pieces to another chunk of steel to make a teeter-totter type follower die.
