Hi Just to confirm .... I also ride a 1979 CB750K and yes there should be oil in the left hand crankcase.
Cheers Witch

It a fuel and oil additive.
In fuel, you just dump it in the tank and run like you normally would. Through use, it will clean junk out of the carbs and valves. you can use it to fog engines to remove some carbon from the cylinders. Take the airbox off and start the bike. Spray like crazy in the carbs and then shut it down for a few minutes right away. Start it up and if you got carbon in your engine, hope you were smart enough to do it outside!
In oil, it is good for cleaning out sludge and other crap. Some people have actually rode with it in the oil. I would just drain out a little oil and put seafoam in and idle the bike for a few minutes and then change.
You can find the stuff a number of places. Most auto parts stores and even walmart has it, at least in my areas. thought it is more there than at my local Mac's hardware.
oh.rite on.i was at auto zone today and saw it but i didnt pick any up.is it a good thing to use for normal maintenance or just if youre motor is running like crap?(sorry for hi jacking the thread)

Mikey, I have not tried it in oil either for that exact reason. yet I have also seen the posts of those who have done it with no issues. I suppose it might depend on how gunked up your motor is.
Pat, you can use it whenever you want. Some use it every few tanks since you can use 1 can for every 2-3 tanks. If things are really dirty, then a stronger mix might be in order. I have dumped a whole can in 1 tank and had no ill effects.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Next time ill try dumping a whole can in also, if it cant hurt then why not,
its a miracle solution, so far ive no complaints with it, but i still wont put it in the crankcase,
I read too many posts that dont advise it,,,mikey440

I don't blame you. I have not done it either. Worse things can happen then a junked clutch though. Enough crud comes loose and it could block an oil galley and starve the engine.

ya i have to agree with ya, not worth wrecking a good motor for a 10.00
bottle of seafoam, works great for the fuel system though, good product!!

I've been traveling last week and this week, and all I've been thinking about is taking the Avenger out for a ride. Is that weird, or am I just enjoying this machine too much?

Luke, i too gave up riding for many years after witnessing my brother almost die
from being hit by 2 cars coming around a blind corner in the mountains, he is still with us today and still rides, but for many years i swore i would not ride anymore, last year i took a short spin on a small streetbike and was hooked all over again, bought myself this cb750 and i love it, although i am always weary of what happened 20 plus years ago, so i try to ride on off days when theres not so much traffic in the hills, i love riding and will continue to do so, but remember theres a lot of shitty drivers out there that dont give a shit about motorcyclists,,,ok enough preaching, keep the rubber side down and enjoy your 750L
mikey440............nice ride, want to sell it???

I too have lost a few friends to MC accidents. During her high school years, my then girlfriend now wife saw a fellow student go head first into an oak tree. The tree won, and the guy died pretty much instantly. He was riding WAY too fast, and lost control. That is the one big reason why I haven't ridden since my teens: I respected her wishes and fears about bikes, and didn't want to give her reason to fear.
Most recently, a good friend of mine was taking his buddy's bike to the mechanic to get its annual tuneup. He took a turn, hit a small patch of gravel and hit a guardrail with his helmet. Again, pretty much instant. My son brags that he hasn't laid his bike down yet. I assured him he will at some point, and I just hope he's going very slowly when he does.
The only reason why I got this bike is because my sons have them, and my youngest (19) has an old school 550 SuperSport that is just fun to work on. It's conventional points ignition, simple carbs, aircooled, and because it's a Honda, the engineering is elegant yet simple. My wife apparently saw how much fun I was having wrenching on his bike, she thought I should have one of my own.
On the upside of this somewhat depressing note, it is fun to give the 2 finger salute to my fellow motorcyclists. It's like I'm part of a brother/sisterhood already. Pretty cool.

you'd think I wouldn't ride. wife dated 2 brothers [one at a time, and before she met me -- come on ] who each rode . . . and each died in a m/c accident within a year of each other while still in high school.
but my [then] 20 year-old son bought a GSX 500 and to help out with insurance etc I took a m/c course and got my license. all was well until he ws cut off on the highway by a gas truck [as in, the truck puulled out from a station across the highway!] . . . he quickly dropped the bike . . . broke his foot, totalled the bike, and injured his ego. but he lived!
hadn't taken the "final exam" so the end of riding, right? wrong! another friend was moving and so I had the opportunity to buy his 750K cheap. I did [though it didn't wind up to be so cheap after all the work I've done to it].
So I'm in the saddle, carefully riding . . . as Maxwell Smart would say . . . and . . . loving it!

I have been lucky to not have anyone close to me or that I otherwise know, die. I had plenty of wipe outs on dirt so maybe I got all that taken care of!

One more thing:in the US of A, Advance Auto Parts stores have the 16 oz can of Seafoam on sale for $6.99. At least they're on sale here in central Ohio. I might just get a can and split it between me and my youngest.
Not for him...for his bike. :-)

I showed the Avenger to a buddy of mine who's an MSC instructor, and he likes it. He recently traded in his big Triumph for a new car for his wife, and he's getting the itch to get another bike. Did Triumph recently make a 3 cylinder bike with 2000cc displacement? The Rocket model, maybe?
He also knows a guy who's got 27 (!) bikes in his stable, including several CB750s. He's got one of the 1969 models (sandcast, I believe it's called). So he'll be a good resource for information when I tear into the bike to fix it up.
I got the bike out over the weekend, and had my first stint driving on wet roads. Not too bad, but a little spooky. Just have to be extra careful.
Back to work.

A quick update on things:
My wife is checking on a 1979 CM400A Hondamatic in Delaware, OH this weekend. Interesting that my wife is the one looking at motorcycles. Granted it's an automatic, which would make things easier for her. She and manual transmissions don't get along well. It might be something we can share when I'm back in town.
I have been looking on several forums for the seal that goes in the cylinder head cover for the tachometer drive. It's not the oil seal for the tach cable itself, it's the seal for the metal part that sits on top, between #1 and #2 cylinders. Looks like it's a dealer item. Anyone out there have a part number for this bit? Or better yet, anyone got one in their toolbox? Looks like I'll have to pull the cover to replace it, right?
Working in Toronto this week and next, and will get the Avenger out next weekend, if the weather is nice. Need to get temps, too. Luke M

have you looked at www.mrcycles.com ? If the part is available it'll be in their database. Those old seals are hard to come by . . . my mech had to fashion some for me because the two I needed were no longer being made

Thanks for the mrcycles site. Unfortunately, they have the same microfiche system as the other sites. I'll keep looking, and hope to visit a dealer soon.
Toronto isn't bad at all. I'm working in Brampton for Rogers cable, and staying in Mississauga. We've been lucky to find good restaurants. I sympathize with bike riders up here. Motorists are pretty inconsiderate of other drivers, let alone bike riders. Pretty scary.
Can't wait to get back home for the weekend.
