Both Cam Chain Tightening Bolts Have Snapped

weaseltree19
Hey all,

I was hearing some slapping from inside the engine so I decided to check it out.  My cam chain was a tad loose, so I had a friend rotate the driveshaft clockwise while I tightened up the front and back cam chain tensioner bolts.  The front bolt (after loosening the locknut) snapped off almost immediately.  I figured that I would try and compensate by tightening the rear bolt (bad idea) and it also snapped off immediately.

So now I've got a loose cam chain (worse than when I started) and two snapped bolts.  IF the bolts are just bolts, I can remove them no problem.  My question is, are they just standard blots that I can remove with a bolt extractor?  Also, I've poured over the manual but cant seem to find the measurements on those two bolts.  Can anyone tell me the sizes of those bolts so I can get some replacements?

Thanks mates

What year model bike do you have? I think most of the cam chain tensioner bolts I have encountered have been a special bolt. You do know that ti adjust the cam chain, you loosen the bolt and then just sung it up and re tighten the locking nut. There should never be enough force needed on these to cause them to snap off.
