Brake Master Cylinder problems. Need Help

youngbiker
I'm working on my master cylinder and i have the reservoir off and i've gone so far as to get the boot off the piston and the snap ring. all the videos i've watched the piston just kinda pops out. i'm worried that mine is rusted very badly and i don't want to replace the whole brake unit just the internals. i've already bought a new reservoir and piston rebuild kit and all the manuals i looked at say take off the backing plate. i just don't know how to do it or why it isn't coming off.

you may be able to use a phillips screwdriver or a pin punch to push it out. did you remove the clip that holds the piston in?

Maybe you could try an easy-out like for removing screws with their heads twisted off?  It's amazing that it's lodged in there so thoroughly.  Can you take pictures?

I've pulled three of those out and never seen anything like that...
I'd say try and drill into it so you can screw something into it and pull it out.  I would guess, though, that there's a strong possibility that whatever's holding it stuck with that much force will probably be a further headache to deal with.  You may just want to try and find a replacement on ebay.

i can't find anything for it on ebay. though there is a braided line i want to check out..... but yeah i'm just gonna call the motorcycle junkyard close to me and see how much they would charge for it.

also i think that the holes in the housing. the ones that let the brake fluid fluctuate are completely clogged any chance opening them up?

I would try to push it out with a Phillips screwdriver going in from the brake line side soak it with anti rust spray of some type first.

It is also a very good possibility that once you do get it out the housing will not be any good. Even with new seals it may still leak.

Any luck finding one?
Do you have a single or dual brake system on your bike?

I'll look and see what I have. Does your resivour have two or four screws holding the top on? From your Pic I dont think I have an exact match though. Did you have any luck using a punch to push it out. First I'd soak it in PB blaster or some other spray that loosens rusty bolts and screws, then try to push it out with a punch and tapping with a hammer. If you have CLR soak it in that for a while first it will help remove the rust. I have used it to remove rust in gas tanks. Try getting it out while I look for a replacement just in case your is toast, I may not have a good one laying around.
