Broken carb and stuck nozzle

Griffin
Tried cleaning the carbs on my project bike today and everything was going well until I could not get a nozzle out and the 4th carb body broke at the atomizer screw hole.

Looking for suggestions. I may try to JB weld the screw hole together.  It looks like the screw hole broke before and there was something holding it together. Both carbs 3 and 4 have something around the atomizer port.

Not sure what to do about the one main jet nozzle that is stuck. I can't tell how badly damaged the head of it is. I think it's basically flat now, nothing for a screw driver to hold onto.

Option B I guess is to replace them.

Since you are wanting to run pods. Replace them with a set of CR carbs.

Re: Broken carb and stuck nozzle

I'd love too but all I see for CR carbs run 8-9 hundred. Just can't do that right now. I was hoping to run it stock for awhile than maybe going to a custom airbox. I found a company that produces them.

Going with JB weld on the broken part and I'm leaving the main jet nozzle in place. That is unless there's a better option I can afford. I know it's not the best but it looks like someone did something similar and I believe it held up for several years. Nozzle looks OK in there and I flushed it good with carb cleaner. Fingers crossed!

There is a thread here somewhere where a guy installed keyhole carbs off a SOHC onto his DOHC. Worked pretty good, but I would rather use the round top carbs myself.

For the time being, you could just ebay a replacement of the same model, or find a bike boneyard if there is 1 in your area.
If you have a dremel, you might cut a slot into the jet for a flathead to fit and then get it out.

Re: Broken carb and stuck nozzle

It's the main jet nozzle not the jet. Really tough to get down there with a dremel. I put them back together today and serviced the airbox. Two of the adjustment screws don't seat right so I don't know where to turn them back out to. It's the carb with the broken screw port and the one next to it that also looks like it had been broken before. Guessing someone over tightened them an did more than just damaged the screw holes. I'm looking for a cheap set to replace these with but for now I'm gonna see if it will run on this old set. Waiting on a replacement air filter now. The old one looked like it came with the bike in 1980.

Learned a lot already working in the carbs. I hope I can get it started soon.

Any recommendations on fuel filters. I was planning on grabbing one at autozone just to have a fresh one or running carb spray through it.

Can you get an E-Z out in there?

Re: Broken carb and stuck nozzle

maybe it would have to be a pretty small one.  I'm leaving it in for now. These carbs really need to be replaced since the fuel screws can't be adjusted properly. I'm going to try them anyway for the hell of it though.

Thanks for looking Truck!!

I did the same thing yesterday and I'm already bidding on a set.  The auction closes Thursday.  If I don't win the auction, that first link looks promising. The other one has a lot of rust from salt water damage I found them yesterday too and didn't want to mess with them.
