Buying a 79 CB750K anything to look out for?

kens97sto171
Looking at a 79 CB750K.  Add says it looks and runs good with title... no info on miles. But he is only asking $750.

Is there anything I should be looking out for that is speific to the CB750K???  I am very mechnically inclined, so some repairs will be fine...but dont want to be fixing it every week...

Also could I depend on this bike to take a trip on?  say 300-400 miles.  Sure it's a Honda, but it is also almost 30 yrs old.

Thanks for any advice you can give...

On a side note there is also a 83 Honda Shadow VT500 for sale... with 13,000 miles, but I don't really like cruisers that much...so leaning to the CB750.

Thanks,,

Ken

CB is great bike.  Check charging system, and check for bearing slop/etc.  The motors are pretty bulletproof.  Clutch noise you will hear is normal.  Listen to valvetrain.  Look for any uneven discoloration (if any) on each header.  Ride it, and ride it hard when you test it out.

Apart from the normal clutch clatter when it idles, there really isnt too much that can go radically wrong, but do check the steering head bearijngs and rear swing arm bushes - especially if they havent been greased in years. Rear shocks can go off after lots of use, but toher then that the motors are very strong and should last indefinitly. If the mileage is high then check eveythign I have mentioned. Electrics are pretty reliable. Of and one quick reminder thats just come to mind, the carb intake rubbers are prone to wear, become brittle and then let air seep in through 99% invisible hairline cracks, which will cause all sorts of carburation problems. I had mine replaced in early 2007 and now runs just fine
Electrics are pretty reliable
Indeed....Rotors are prone to problems.  Starters need re-bolted down w/ some loctite, but I guess that's not really electrical.

Thanks for all the input, I talked to the guy on Wed he told me it runs great, no smoke when cold or hot, it does have 55,000 miles on it. I am planning on going to look at it today and talk with him... My paycheck got screwed up..as in I did not GET ONE..so I can't get it this week... I am hoping he can hold it with a little money down.  If not at least I have finally found the bike that will serve my needs and one that I would enjoy riding.

Thanks again for all the help.
