Buying first cb750, beginner questions

Bizzel
Hi, I'm Boudewijn, a student from the Netherlands, I just signed up here because I really love the CB750 and this seems like a place where I can learn a lot, from a lot of nice people :)..

This friday I'm buying (or looking at) an '82 CB750F, It's actually my first bike. I know it's not the easiest bike to begin with but I just love the look and feel of them, and I also want to restore it as I love to build and modify everything I own ;). I don't have much experience except for partially disassembling my dad's Road King..

My main question is, what are the things to look out for when buying a CB750, what parts need attention, what's easy to fix and what's going to cost me a small fortune. The bike is a runner but it's been neglected for two years. What are the things that I definitely need to check out??

Thanks in advance :)

Better get that silver tool pouch off of there before it gets stolen or gets dumped all over the road.

There are two things to look out for in particular on the DOHC 750s First the charging system. I would take a volt/ohm meter with me when looking at the bike, and check to make sure it is charging. It should be charging around 14 volts at 3K RPM. Second is the timeing chain tensioners. They tend to wear, and let the chain eat into the cases. Other then that just check tires, oil, chain.....
