CB750A in UK.

Maz
Hi all,

A fella turned up at our local VJMC meeting on this last night. Probably a common sight for you guys in the US, but the first one I've seen 'in the flesh' in the UK. Is the chaincase painted as standard or are they usually chrome?

My 78k is painted black, thats how it came. If I remember right, not much for A's in my area, they are black as well, maybe chrome. So this guy painted it the same as his bike/ Which is ok as I like the color!

Beautiful bike! It is a 77 model that has had a few changes made. The fenders, headlight, and chain guard should be chrome. The grab bar on the seat is off a 76 model, it should have a chrome grab bar mounted below the seat, and the turn signals should be mounted to it, not the taillight, which seems to be off a later DOHC bike. It should also have a four into two exhaust. Did he let you ride it?

P.S. The color is correct for an "A" model. My toolmatic was originally that same color. Also they never came in black, it just seems that it is popular to repaint them black, I know of 4 of them that have been painted black.

My bike is stock color, just the chain guard is black, which I believe was stock. It was black when I got it, 20 some years ago.

I was figuring the chain guard on the A was black as well, but I could be wrong.

It and the "F" were chrome. And they were both different in design.

A's are rare in my area, too. I've only seen one. My own, that I bought for $20 to part out.

That's a gorgeous bike!

I have 5, and know of 6 more in Kansas City. I think they were all sold here.

Hi Tools,

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling it was different. I've just found out it was imported from South Africa so I guess they may have been different for that market.

I didn't ask for a ride as it was the guy's first visit to one of our meetings! I will be working on him, though cos I've never tried an 'A'. I'll swap him for a ride on my '79 750L!

I have let 3 friends ride the toolmatic. 2 have bought matics, and the 3rd is looking for one.

From what you've said and from what the guy who owns this one said, it looks like I might have to start looking too!

Ah ok, as I said, I don't think I have seen 1 first hand, in my area. Internet pics I take with a grain of salt as you never know what has been changed.
