CL find....worth it? Looks like it is to me.

MarkPBG
I saw this on CL and am going to look at it today, Sunday Oct 16. It has the look I like (old, vintage) and since I'm a fairly laid back rider (not a street racer, just point a to point b and enjoy the ride) I think this one would be nice. I'm just wondering if, given the way it looks- fairly clean- does this price seem in line for a bike this old? I'm new here, hoping to learn something about these old CB's. I was looking at new bikes, but they just don't turn my head like old cafe conversions, I'm a hot rodder at heart, having owned two early '70's camaros.

Nice looking bike. Might be a little on the high side. Look it over real good, and make an offer.

I'm sort of familiar with researching stock pricing, or even mild customizing, on cars, but on bikes I'm lost. This thing sold for around this price new, and from what I can see, he's got a $150 tailpiece on it and has done some work on the bars and instruments. I was thinking, from what I can find on values, of an offer around $1500-1600. Of course, if its a real low mileage bike and I can see it in the frame and wiring, which often show their age despite cosmetic cover-ups, then he may get his price. It's got the right look, for me anyway. I can't wait to see it in person. :) It's been too long since I've  been on two wheels.

Thats about the same price as a good riding lawn mower...which would you rather have for the same money?i'd say its a good deal if it truly is a turn-key rider.Somebody put some hours into that bike.

Yeah, if it's turn key and the mechanicals check out, he's going to get his price. I'm not one to try and get something for nothing.
I remember when I was selling my 99 Cherokee with only 80K miles on it. The A/C worked, the cruise control still worked, the interior looked like it was garage kept, Blue Book at the time was $4500 and I was asking $2500. Some guy offered me $450!
There's "trying to get a good deal", and there's "being stupid". I won't ask the guy if he'll take $100, that's for sure! lol

Yup, 2WD first came in 1985, first time a jeep had 2wd since 1967 according to wiki. I don't need 4wd here in FLAT south Florida. I did need something small that had good cargo capacity for art shows.

Now I think I need another one to replace my corolla, so I can tow a motorcycle trailer and/or small camper!

Early 80's F model. Looks good, but still a little high in my book. Also I do not trust adds with out a phone number, or mention of e-mailing. I would flag it as spam.

I've bought a lot of stuff from PWG's on CL. (my own acronym...Paranoid White Guys) when the guys in fancy neighborhoods don't want the scum of Cl to have their phone or address until they talk to them by email first. (like they can tell if someone isn't quite right by the way they type? LOL) Talking to a buyer on the phone would be MUCH more likely to let you know if the buyer sounds like a hyped up meth addict. I bought a couch, a futon, a couple of vases with a few fake plants, two chairs, and a stove all from ads without contact info except for the email link. I guess I have been lucky so far. :)

There is a scam going on right now where, you reply to an add by e-mailing through craigslist. then, you get an e-mail a few days later saying that they had been busy, and, you were the first to e-mail..... Then they want, you to verify your phone number through something like clphonesafe.whatever. Then they will call, you. It's a scam, and if they can not put a phone number in the add, and especially if it is a deal too good to be true, then it is a scam, and should be flagged. I check the motorcycle listings everyday, and flag a few each day.

I would tell them I don't "verify" through a third party, call me and talk to me and that will be all the verification you're going to get IF you really have anything to sell. Then I will ask for the VIN number so >>>I<<< can verify the bike isn't stolen! lol

Received an answer finally, it's a title in hand 1980. He claims to have a guy looking at it Sat. (don't they always have a "guy looking at it tomorrow? LOL) From the extra pics he sent, it looks VERY clean. I don't even think I'd need degreaser. The CR carbs are recent additions, and in like new condition. The only thing that may keep me from getting it is the newer style with mag wheels. I've really got this old school cafe racer look and theme stuck in my head now, and really want to make it happen. Then again, I haven't had a bike in over 7 years and I am SOOOO eager to ride again! If this thing is as nice as all the pics, cosmetically AND mechanically, I may just go ahead and get it! lol First project. Beginning of the downward spiral….

That really is a nice looking bike, but i know what you mean about the modern look.I LOVE a bike with spoke wheels and drum brakes.Just seems right.Of course, that would be a nice, dependable bike to ride while you get your cafe together
