Carbs from '80 on a '76?

VTMNG
Hey,
I'm needing new carbs for a '76 CB750 project. A buddy has some carbs off a '80 that he will give me a good deal on. The main thing I can tell by looking is that the '76 have the direct linkage so the throttle cable acts directly on the throttle valve in the carb, where as the '80 carbs are vacuum so the cable moves the butterfly valve that raise/lowers the needle.

Beyond that, does anyone know if the jetting would need to be changed? Are the airboxes and pipes the same pressure from 76 trough 80? If I have to do a rebuild and rejet kit than I'm not saving money on the deal.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Putting the 80 model CV carbs on your 76 would be nothing but a huge headache. Just look around for a set of 70-76 round top carbs. You can get them for around $100.00. And rebuild them for less then $30.00. Also new carb boots, and clamps can be had if needed. The amount of work involved in swapping the CVs on, and rebuild costs would be much higher, and no counting for the time involved. Also most guys would like to put the 70-76 carbs onto their DOHC bikes. However if you want to be really cool check out the duel carb kit from Cycle-X.
