Carbs won't stay on the intake?

lusciouslemur
For all of you pod filter-toting people, I can't figure out how to keep the carbs in those dang boots. I've tried rotating them in different angles, but it still feels that if carb 1 goes in, 4 comes out. I bought the boots so they aren't the originals, does that matter? Any tricks? It's a 1980 cb750c

I use silicone spray on the boots and carbs to lubricate them, and then super strength to force the carbs into the boots. Another trick is to use a ratcheting tie-down strap hooked into the carbs and around the engine/frame to apply a LITTLE pressure to hold them in place while wrestling them in.

This is fun for all us cb750 owners. I stand in front of my bike, over the front tire. Then I have more leverage as I am pulling towards myself when trying to get the carbs on.
I will tell you this, be thankful you are not trying to put on the carbs to v45. I used to think these were hard, then I got a v45. Now I know better.

OK I will give that a go. Is what I described normal, that they seem to want to go in at an angle?

I usually dont have an issue unless the manifold rubbers got turned. A ruler or flat piece of wood should show if they are not even.

I use the method Tools mentioned, a ratchet type tie down, around the frame down tubes,
some wd40 on the insides of the boots, start the rack of carbs in the boots as best you can,
Tie down around the back of the carbs, then very carefully wiggle and ratchet them in.
Watch the fins on the motor, you don't want to break one or two off.

It helps to have the choke and throttle cable hooked  up before putting them back in also.

The tie-down ratchet method worked! Thanks all.

Guess I have never had that much of an issue.
