Chain Trouble...

Curt750F
Now I may be having a total brain fart here but I just got a new chain and I have tightened it as far as the tighteners will go, I did have to cut a few links off because of the length issue, and there is still massive amounts of slack in the chain...do I need to take another link out or what???

Yup, sounds like it. How long was the chain?

Your chain should have 1/2 " movement on top and 1/2" movement on bottom. Some of the guys that are running longer chains are using chain tensioners instead of taking links out.A tensioner looks like a roller wheel that goes between the frame and the chain.

this type of bike does not use a tensioner. the links should be something like 102 - 104.

Yep I know i am on to many sites that build customs and they are installing them .Not stock bikes.Just throwing ideas out there. But for sure the chain needs to be the right length and have the right tension. Also i would not put in a roller tensioner in mine but to each his own.

A lot of the customs use extended arms so it makes sense in that app. I have never used one but then I have never modded the swingarm but it does seem that a lighter chain helps quite a bit in some cases.
