I got what is supposed to be the original front sprocket for my bike today.I don't have ,or know, what it takes to retain it on the output shaft.Refer to the manual!  It has 17 teeth. The wheel that came off this bike had 44 teeth. The wheel going back on this bike has 48 teeth.I have another sprocket to use that has 38 teeth. What would be the best to use? I am mainly just looking to cruise some twisty mountain roads and run about 60 mph on the highway.Mountains are pretty steep and tall around here.

I don't remember what brand I ended up with.  It was over a year ago.  Piute is correct:  "Your Mileage May Vary."

I do remember that my mechanic had to cut the chain down to size, as there are very few 630's made anymore, and the one I bought, was larger than what I needed.  He also used a riveted master link, saying he would not use the clip type (he used to race motorcycles, and that was all he would trust, or use himself).  I looked into doing it myself, but I, too, wanted a riveted master link.  The tool to rivet the master link, was over $100, at that time, which turned me off on the idea of doing it myself:  another very expensive tool, which I would use once every 5+ years...  That is one of the reasons I lean on my professional mechanic so much:  I cannot afford to buy expensive, specialty tools, which I would use once every 3+ years, assuming I kept the bike in question, for so many years.  I wish I could, but I have to be realistic -- my cash flow, and reserves, are limited.  Your situation may vary.    Cheers!

Thanks guys,im leaning toward the factory spec brand.Sure its not the best, but it about my budget for now.I was interested in the riveted link too.No way to improvise with a hammer and punch?

Did find an answer to one question i had,if you can trust interweb info,

530= pins are 5/8" center to center
620=pins are 3/4" center to center

...FYI...im catching on Sarge

There is a lot of difference between a Hi-performance race bike, and a stock street legal bike. I have never had a master link fail. I also like to be able to remove my rear wheel with out having to remove my front sprocket. I have had to remove the wheel on the Toolmatic twice this summer all ready. Once to have a new tire installed, and again when the tube went bad. Professional mechanics will tell, you anything to keep, you coming back. They like their $75.00 an hour labor rate.

Piute the thrill of a dirty bike is hard to beat.45 hp doesn't sound like much, but on a 2 stroke in the woods....its a rush!!!I got one hung up in a tree one time...sucked getting it out.Decided to go safer route with 4 wheeler.Buuuut  im a speed/thrill junkie so i found myself going up some pretty stupid hills with all that new found traction. You know you're stupid when the guys that usually are egging it on for you to do something stupid start begging you to never do that again.I'll just stick to drag racing for now.Helmets and fire suits tend to remind you to be careful.even though they are murder to wear in 100 degree temps

I like the episode of "Then Came Bronson" where he ran off the road, and the Sportster  landed in a tree.

"Bronson" A great TV show from the late 60's. Staring Micheal Parks. The movie premier also stared Bonnie Bedelia. He would travel around on a Sportster, and have neat adventures.

Re: Chains 0-ring and x-ring

cityslicker
Someone said to keep the chain lubricated early in this thread, I read in the shop manual that part of the Oil circulatory system is to lube the chain, is that something that is less then optimal? should you also grease the chain? I always grease everything that moves on the Jeep, any metal to metal moving part. besides between the breaking surfaces. and think A good think axle grease on a bike chain would be sufficient if the bikes lubricating system is prone to failure, or insufficiency.
