Charging issues

zedx
Finally got a new rectifier hooked it all up started checked the battery at all RPM ranges, nothing...Checked the 3 yellow wires coming from stator full continuity between all three wires no continuity to ground checked the ones coming from the field coil full continuity between each other and  no continuity to ground. Are both the stator and field coil bad?

How is that my problem? Will this not work. All the reading I did said it would followed, the wiring diagram found on this site that others have used.

DOHC bikes always have charging problems.

Well, a better question is, "Do you have AC voltage on the yellow wires?"  Place your Digital Volt Meter (set to AC voltage, 100 Volt range, or higher) leads across two of the three yellow wires when the bike is running, and see how much AC voltage you have (check by moving around the three, measuring output from all three wires by moving leads in a clockwise way -- verifies all three coils are pumping out current).  If there is >30 VAC, then your alternator is working properly.

Next step is to determine whether you have any DC voltage on the output of your Rectifier/Regulator (if everything is wired properly, you can place your leads across the battery terminals):  you should read 14 VDC, or higher, at 3,000 RPM.

To directly answer your question on the stator, and the field coil, check the FSM for testing procedures.  The FSM is available from the home page of this web site.  Cheers!

yeah no voltage out of the three yellow wires. I'm thinking it is the field coil because I am not getting any resistance out of it at all just full continuity. Does that sound right?

I'll check out the FSM testing procedures mentioned too..

The FSM will give the proper range of resistance on the field coils, and the stator.  At least now you know that the problem is located within the alternator (the R/R could still be an issue, but one step at a time...).  Best of luck!  Cheers!
