Charging problem

46rocketrod
Hello everyone, my bike is a 79 cb750k and I'm building it into a cafe racer like lots have. I am having trouble with the charging though. I've put in a new stator, new battery, and I don't know enough about these bike to trace out a bad connection or know where some well known faults are that will hinder the charging. Thanks for the help!

i was in the same boat as you at lease you have a 79 and not a 82 750sc they are the worst
you need to check one more thing the rotor with a ohm meter on the copper ring from the rings to ground
should be 6.2 to 4.6 anything lower then that is bad to dont buy a use one will only do the same thing
a new one cost  around $100 to $120 oh might want to change your light bulb i got 1 from dime city at
lower watts 45/45 H4 the factory one is 55/65 H4  check all ground check youtube

Im curious how the charging rotor is different between a '79 and an '82.

So, just to clarify, the bike for sale doesn't charge.

I'm not sure if there is any difference between those years. And as of right now the bike for sale does not charge but it does not affect how it while it's running which confuses me. You could ride it all day long no problem but after a few hours and start ups, the battery gets low and needs jump started. It may just have a bad connection somehwhere

Have you checked it with a volt meter? It should be putting out around 13.4 volts at 2000 RPM.

I didn't mean to sound like I was giving you a hard time about the charging. Just checking.

Tools is right, the easiest thing is to check it with a meter. As far as testing it, you can get the Factory Service Manual for free here. That shows you all about testing your rotor. Good luck and nice bike!
