Cheap insurance-fuel filter in your pocket

I was out putting around today and my bike just about died with no warning.I guess after getting it finally jetted right(well, almost) and putting some pretty hard full throttle runs on it, i musta jarred some rust loose outta the tank.It was so sudden of a loss of power that i thought i had lost a coil. All 4 pipes were warm, though.Hmm?Pulled the choke to about 3/4 closed and off i went.Ah ha! Fuel filter.Side of a 4 lane highway trying to clean out a crappy fuel filter full of rust,40 degrees, cars and semis blowing by kicking up cold air filled with dust...i woulda give $100 for a new filter.Got 'er cleaned half way and headed straight to an auto parts store.Got lucky and saw the bike shop i go to was open.He was hanging some new shelves up and was nice enough to let me in.He likes cafes and Hondas...he's a really good guy. I picked up two filters.Put one on the bike and one in the pocket of my riding jacket where it will stay...right beside my 10mm ratcheting wrench.Gave the old one a good heave into the bushes.Littering ain't nice, but it felt good.Something to think about

Could you take off the filter, flip it 180, hook it to the tank but not to the carbs and open the fuel for a second or two to flush it out?  Having a spare is a much better idea but in your case in a pinch would that have cleaned it out enough you think?
Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear to god one of these days, I just kick this piece of shit out the window.

Had the same thing happen to my Shadow back in July.  Running on the freeway, and then the RPM just dropped...all the way down to zero.  Waited about 3-4 minutes, and it started again.  It did this until I got it back home.

Determined it was a fuel feed issue, and pulled the inline filter.  It was loaded with junk from my old tank (the rusted out one someone tried to Kreem without prepping it first).  Got it home, took the reserve tank out and flushed it as best I could, went to NAPA and got another inline filter, and put it all back together.  It's been problem free ever since.

I also got some new hoses to put in place of the old ones, just in case it was a cracked fuel line problem. It wasn't but better safe than sorry.

Hmm, or you could just put 3 or 4 of them in line and just remove them as they get clogged

Thanks for the tip. I just want to be able to ride my bike across town to the garage and then will replace the tank, clean the cabs, and throw in my shiny new filter (and then buy a new one).
