Comstar rear drum?

SmashEmUp
Does anyone know where I can get a silver 18" Comstar rear wheel with drum brakes? I've seen a few modeled CBs online, but few and far between. From what I can tell, the silver Comstars only came the DOHC F's? Which were mostly disc brakes?

Some of the SOHC's had Comstars, too. They were a different style. I think the early DOHC's used the same Comstar's as the SOHC before changing to the later style. I dont think I have seen either Comstar with a rear drum brake, but that doesn't mean they didn't make one. When you say silver Comstar I am assuming you are looking at the early ones.

I didn't even know they came on the SOHCs. Lol! But yes, the silver ones in the first picture are the ones that I'm looking for. Rear with a drum.

I found one on eBay, but it's in England. And he won't ship to the U.S. I drove from Seattle to Portland to a salvage yard I called on Tuesday that told me they had one. Funny how when I got there they never heard of such a wheel and the owner didnt even recall talking to me. Hmm.... Someone calling from out of state about a rare stock wheel.

Anyways. I'm looking for one, can't find one anywhere.

Oh, also.... From what I can tell... The silver Comstars you pictured above came on DOHC F models. The black Comstars came on DOHC C models. I think the DOHC K models still came with spokes. My disclaimer: "from what I can tell". Lol! I know I'm a noob, ain't no gotta tell me so. =P

My friend had a '78 cb with the black rims and if I remember correctly a drum brake (I did all the maint.)  You could look into a st of these them get them sandblasted and polished.  Just an idea.

They came black stock? The only black ones I've seen were the CRD bikes. I thought they painted or powder coated them. Anyway, I think I may have sealed the deal with the Brit. Offered him double his asking price. Lol! And somehow I won the item I never bid or clicked buy it now on.

The 1st com stars (c.s.) came on the f models s.o.h.c.,on the d.o.h.c. they flipped the the center star peaces and most were blk. in later mdels then all blk totally diff.look in 80s models, smaller rear. There's lots of different 1's out there .Once you own a pair you'll notice lots.

I guess there's some trivia for me! I've never seen an SOHC with Comstars on them. I'm thinking because spoked wheels are more old school, cooler? I personally am going with Comstars because I have a DOHC, not as old school and cool as a an SOHC. =P I'll save the spoked wheels for when I do build an SOHC!

Hey guys, thank you for all your help and knowledge. This isn't me arguing or questioning anything you're saying. This I just me trying to learn and understand.

shinyribs: Aren't the Comstars in both of your pics from DOHC bikes though? From my searches, only the DOHC F's came with silver 18" rear. The black ones in your pic, I have seen described as "Inverted Comstars",  and have only seen those in black and 16" rears. A few of the SOHCs are pictured with silver Comstars, but they all have the black plastic tab between the rivets. And I haven't seen any of those in an 18" rear, all 16". The only other places I have been able to find the 18" rear, drum brake Comstars (like the "DOHC style) are on the CRD (I think they're an Italian company) and one off eBay that was in the UK.

Can anyone bring me any clarity on this?

The only way to get answers is to ask questions.  I belive my friends had the inverted rims your talking about.  the spokes were H shaped in profile and didn't make an "A-frame" pattern like I see on alot of the bikes on the forum.  Now as to how OEM they were for the bike I have no idea since the bike had belonged to 2-3 other people before my buddy picked it up and the owner before hand was a customizer and had made a few mods to the bike.

Smashemup, the silver Comstars came on some SOHC's and the early DOHC's. The black Comstars only came on DOHC's. I dont know if there were specific to F models or not. It does seem like that, though.

All of the silver Comstars came with those black plastic tabs. Some of them just fell off through the years. That threw me for a loop when I first started looking at them, too. My 76F (the burgundy bike in the pics) came with spoke wheels originally but the PO swapped the Comstars onto my bike. It was a rear disc brake bike originally also. Even with the spokes.

I know you aren't argueing. No worries! Ask away,I'll be glad to misinform you
