DOHC FRAME

Anyone got a frame for a DOHC or know where one is for sale?

I could probably get one, but it would be nice to skip the hastle. Although from what I hear it's not to hard to get one in VA.

According to Shiny it is pretty easy to get one there. I have a "C" model frame that does not have a title, or swing arm, you can have for shipping. I also have a complete "K" model frame with title I would let go of for $200.00 plus shipping.

Hmmm, the "C" frame has potential, now I just need to find a 900 engine to drop into it!!!

My buddy's frame is an F with no title. And I'm sure he's gonna want to sell it. Tools is your man then!

You can get abandoned vehicle titles fairly easy, as long as you know the Vin is clean. If it has any leins you'll be responsible for them. Kind of a catch 22, but doable.

Re: DOHC FRAME

Friend of mine just told me he has several frames and boxes of parts in Ohio, looks like it might be time for a road trip!

Just out of curiosity, with all your lathes and toys, have you ever made a set of triple trees? Ide like to put I nice wide front end with some inverted forks on this monstrosity.

It's funny you say that. I've got a pair of GSXR usd's here now. Just the legs, no trees. I was planning to pick up some plate and make a set of trees. But you can use stock GSXR trees and just put your CB stem in the lower tree. That's what I did early on on Hackjob, but ended up selling that front end on the Water Buffalo.

I will sat this, though. A GSXR front end is kinda short. Even reusing the stock 19'' front tire, it lowered that bike ~1.5''. Also, the trees have very little offset compared to CB trees, so it sucks the tire real close to your headers and fouls up the trail. But!...the bike rode INCREDIBLY smooth with those forks. Which is why I want to build my own trees, even though you can run the stock trees.

I know you weren't specifically talking about GSXR, but all modern bikes run low offset in the trees. And All of them have fairly short legs compared to older bikes, too. Just trying to give you a heads up on what I found from my own experience.

00-05 GSXR 750 forks are pretty common. Easy to buy trees and calipers to fit. The later years with the radial calipers are pricey.  But if you go with a modern cruiser frontend like you posted it would probably be a better setup. It'll be a more comfortable ride vs sportbike suspension. You can also use the stock spoked wheel / brake system. Otherwise you'll have to adapt your wheel to the sportbike forks ( I doubt you want to run 17'' sportbike wheels) and then you'll have to adapter the sportbike discs to your wheel.

I would measure the length of your forks and find what will retain your current ride height, unless you are looking to lower or raise your bike,of course.

All you gotta do is pull the stem outta your current lower tree and install it in to your new lower tree. Many modern bikes have larger diameter stems, so you end up needing to make a simple spacer so your CB stem won't be all loose and floppy in the new top tree. But that's simple. Give me the dimensions and I can turn you one up.

Also, Honda is suuuper famous for reusing dimension. The stems are different lengths, but SOHC and DOHC CB stems share the same sizes as the CBR stuff. Not CBR RR, just CBR. So if you go with a Honda front end you very well find out you won;t need that top clamp adapter afterall.

Clear as mud?

Re: DOHC FRAME

Ohhh, I plan to go as low as I can!

My next problem is it seems damn hard to find an engine. Am I correct in a 900f lower end and a 750 are the same? I have found plenty of 900 heads but no complete motors.

900 "F" and "K"are the same as the 750. The 900 "C" has a different engine case.

750 and 900 bottom ends are different.  The crank and rods, oil pump and pan, trans and clutch are all different, but they will interchange. The cases will interchange between frames, though.

For example, my '80 750 has 900 rods (stronger) trans, oil pump and pan, trans and clutch all inside a 750 case. IIRC, the 900 rods are a touch longer, too. My jugs are spaced off my cases.
