DOT5 brake fluid

Matt Story
A very experienced mechanic turned me onto DOT5 brake fluid.  There seems to be a lot of advantages over the other types although more expensive.  For one it is not corrosive so it won't damage paint or other surfaces and is compatible with most types of rubber.  It does not absorb water, and has a better lubricity.  I found this article that seems to sum it up pretty well.  You can read it for yourselves and decide.  Me, I'm sold on it and since my system is completely rebuilt and reassembled with new parts and well cleaned, it's a perfect time to change.  The only warning is that you can't mix it with the other types.

Here is a link to PDF I found:  I can't personally vouch for the information, but it looks informed.

Harley Davidson stopped using it.

You need to read more about it.
It does work but you need to know its limitations.
