Do I need a rotor too?

Spookytooth
Hello, My name is SPOOKYTOOTH.  Im new to this fourm and (GLAD) I found it.  I just bought a 1978 cb 750f supersport a few weeks ago.  I really like this bike and am not afraid to work on it, but I have been having some trouble with it charging.  I have been on this fourm and read what I could find about this problem.  Im certain that it is the stator but should I replace the rotor as well?  Is there anything I need to look for (wear, rust ect)
Another question I have is, There is a ground wire that is connected to the frame on the underside of the bike on the stator side.  Its barely hanging on (which I will fix this week), but the question is could it be double grounding at that point causing it to run battery down?  I hope I  eplainded this well enough.  LOL  Thanks for any and all help.

What makes you think the rotor is causing your battery to not get charged?
A rotor and a stator is just a winding of wires. It has no moving parts.
Test them like the workshop manual says. That means you need a workshop manual if you are going to work on the bike.

Have you done a diagnostic test on the rotor or stator? All you need is a multi meter.

You should have a ground wire from the battery to the ENGINE and you should have a ground from the battery to the FRAME.

That wire hanging down on the bottom near the alternator is probably the wire going to the neutral switch.

You really need to buy a multimeter and learn how to use it.
Get the kind with a meter (analog, so you can see the meter arm move.)

Welcome to the forum. You can download the manual from our manual section. Just follow the steps. It is not hard to diagnose.
