Dohc exhaust fitment

mattwrx
I know there's other threads about this but it's driving me nuts. I had the half moon things  facing the way in the picture but the exhaust manifold has some movement and leaks. If I flip them around the nuts won't even thread on the studs. Any suggestions?

In the picture they are backwards. Maybe the wrap is not letting the collar slide over them correctly.

the flanges are completely seated against the inside of the collar and even when pushing against the flange and pipe the nuts wont start.

NO! They worked before. There is something preventing them from going into the collars, and you need to find out why. Also did you remove the old copper crush washers?

One extra crush washer left in the port won't cause it to sit that far out. Even if you removed those extra washers, looking at your pic, it'll probably only give you a couple threads to work with. I think you've got something else going on perhaps.

I found I had the rear of the exhaust fitted on the outside of the mounting arm, which stopped the flange from lining up exactly as yours is doing. It is easier to line up and bolt up, if the rear of the exhaust is free to move.
