Exhaust Wrap???

Curt750F
So I was just curious what you all thought about exhaust wrap...does it really work, do you think it looks good, and so on.  I have a Mac 4 to 1 on my 80 750F.

It is a performance enhancement....The more you can keep a header insulated, the hotter the exh gasses will stay and this is a good thing.  Most expensive is ceramic coating.  Header tape is cheap.  Probably won't notice much if any difference on a stock bike.  The tape wrap might help hold that Mac together though

i'm not sure what you're asking when you say, 'does it work?'  will it insulate the headers and keep more of the heat inside?  yes.  will it cause a performance increase? if any i imagine it would be small.  normally in cars the wrap is used to keep the heat away from the block and head to allow it to run cooler than it would normally.  with an exposed engine like this I'm not sure how much benefit you'd see.  still, i think it looks badass.  one thing to be weary of though... once you wrap it there's no taking it off.  your manifold temperatures will get hot and bind the wrap to the pipes.  also with the increased heat it will make your manifold deteriorate quicker than it would normally...  just my $.02

I didn't notice any performance increase but it will keep the temperature more uniform since the wind won't cool the headers off as quickly. It also helps bring your attention down to the engine since the black pipes were basically "invisible" when looking at the bike. I got a 50' roll off eBay and it took every bit of the roll to do it. I used stainless steel zip ties to hold it on.

It adds a very small amount of power.  It helps more with turbocharged engines.  Also, it traps hot moisture between the pipes and the wrap and rusts them a lot more quickly.
