Exhaust system

gcarper
I have a 74 750K4  with 4 to 2 exhaust pipes.  I want to go to 4 to 1 type and have found several but they are listed as 78 CB750F.  Will they fit my engine?  I know it's the same engine but somewhere I read that the exhaust mountings were different.
Thanks for your help

Yes, you are right ...there are 2 types of mounts... the early mounts are called SPIGOT style... and have a different mount than the later ones.

go on over to www.hondachopper.com and we'll help ya out over there....it's the place to go if you have a early SOHC Honda CB750.

there is a FORUM

sign up and then go to the QUESTIONS and ANSWERS area...you'll get tons of hits and pics...

plus probably get a better deal on parts too :)

peace!

All 750 F models came stock with a 4 into 1 pipe that is why it says F model. I own the same bike as you a 74. The stock pipes are available OEM from Europe from cmsnl.com but they are $1,000 plus customs fees. That is what I have, I kept mine original. The K4 had four seperate pipes. If you want to see it I posted pictures of my 74 with new pipes on it. Kirker, MAC, or Alphbet may still make nice 4 into 1 headers for the 74. Alot of people go with headers cause its cheaper than finding stock pipes. But if you run them you may have to change your carb jets as well because the engine was tuned for the stock pipes not headers. As for the mounts it should bolt right up on one side. One other thing to consider if you go with headers is your air intake system. A set of K&Ns will be less restrictive. If your wondering who this guy is I used to work for San Jose Honda in those days. I was not a mech but a parts guy, but I have lived, ate and breathed bikes ever since. I currently own a 1974 CB 750 K4, 76 Kawasaki KH500 triple, and a restored 72 Honda CT 70 minitrail. I'm currently looking for a 72 Kawasaki H2...yeah I'm an adrenalin junkie ha ha. Have fun.
