It does hold in more heat, How much I am not sure. It supposedly allows exhaust gasses to move fast but much of that depends on the pipe that is wrapped. Our pipes are not overly large in diameter so you may or may not get any benefit. Unless you already were lean, you probably won't need to make any changes unless you also changed the muffler. Since you have run it, just pop the plugs and look.

As for the smoke, if it keeps happening, then there might be some issue. If not, my GUESS would be that the wrap wasn't fully dry. I have heard that water can be absorbed by the wrap, like when you wash your bike or ride in the rain.

Keep in mind, this is stuff I have read from other people so ymmv.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

According to the physics class I took molecules move faster when heated, so yes the exhaust will move faster. However it will not be enough to cause a lean condition. Also the exhaust wraps do smoke for awhile.

They're right.

I've used header wrap a bunch of times. It always smokes lots after initial installation. Will smoke when you ride in the rain too. And when it gets all that funky road water on it...it will stink. Just par for the course.

The scavenge effects are probably legit in theory, but in practice, it does hardly anything to affect power/tuning.

And it WILL expand and contract at different rates then the tubing under it, so it will constantly be abrading your pipes. aka- the pipes will rust under the wrap no matter what you do to them. It will rub through chrome in a few thousand miles. I've seen it eat ceramic coatings completely down to the bare tube in tight bends. But I still love the stuff and thin it looks tough.

I sold four brands of exhaust wrap for years, and some brands smoked for hours until all of whatever it's coated with during manufacturing burns off.

The only reason I have ever used wrap is to keep from burning myself. My leg on a bike, my arms on the race cars. For me, that was the primary benefit to the wrap.
