FORK SEALS

Hi,

I have a 1977 CB750f.  Just wanted to double-check on my new fork seals:
When looking down on the fork does the seal get installed as seen in the top photo or the bottom photo?

Hey, i had this exact same question so i also look forward to an answer from one of the more experienced people here, but i figured that the more open gap goes downwards so that when the fork compresses the oil will tighten the inner ring and create a good seal.

Top picture. I also have a tip for you. Smear a little bit of silicone gasket sealer on the inside of the fork tube before installing the seal. This will make the seal slide right in, and then help seal it.

I have seen people use fork oil to coat the outside of the seal and inside of the top of fork where the seal goes to help it go in....pros and cons of that over using silicone or silicone over that?
