FRONT SHOCK ABSORBERS OIL CHANGE

ADEEL MIRZA
I am planning to replace the oil of front shock absorbers on my Honda CB-750 four. Last time I did it, I could not compress the springs to engage top nuts of shocks. Is there any easier way of engaging the top nuts by compressing shock absorber springs?

Sorry.I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but I'll try to help anyway. You have to remove the top fork caps to refill them. With those off the springs will have to nowhere to push against so you should be able to compress the forks freely. If you do not pump the forks a few times you will never get the old fluid out. Put the bike on the center stand and get another jack (bottle jack works good) to lift the front tire off the ground. Once you pop off the fork caps and drain the old fluid you can pump the forks til they stop spewing old fluid. It's really the only way to do it.

If I totally missed what you needed please ask again

Do like Shiny said, and get the front off the ground. With the forks extended, you can push down on the cap, and get it started.

Lifting the front wheel off the ground is the best, and only, method I know of.  I, too, had a terrible time getting the top nuts down to meet the threads. I pretty much had to lean into it, to get the threads to engage.  Took a few tries, but I finally got them in.  Cheers!

Shinyribs, my question is related to the part that comes after filling oil. How do I engage the top caps after I've filled the oil. The springs do not compress enough. As far as I remember, and my memory is vague, even lifting the front forks off the ground did not help much.

I understand now Adeel. It is tough to get the caps back on. it really just takes some muscle to do it. I have a 3/8" speed wrench that i went out and bought a socket to fit the fork caps.It allows you to put a lot of down pressure on the caps while you turn them. Yeah, that part of it just sucks.

I just put my ratchet, and socket on the cap, and shove down, and turn.
