Fairings

Elliot Cannon
I'm looking for a minimal fairing for my 1975 cb750.  Is anyone familiar with these two or can recomend something you are happy with?   Mine is a stock cb750.    Cheers,   Elliot

The top pic Well pretty much for looks,Guess could have function if at a track or ducking behind once moving down the hwy,(you need a shield height .

The second could be of good use if made for bike there are many out there that can be bolted on like this all cycle catalogs carry them,There needs to be places of contact (1 clamp and 1 to stop vibration.(these also come wide to block hands can be nice in freezing wind)

Thing to remember wind Shields fog up(bad /can't see) Get shield height accordantly ,may have to see over and don't repel water unless moving over 50 m.p.h.(so in town light to light your looking through beads of water) ALSO water falls from the sky(setting still or moving slow will get you soaked)your arms & shoulders mostly.

Your going to spend 100 bucks or so for new 1 ,There great to have ,will spoil you once you know when & how to use,Detach ables are great but another 75 bucks or so.

Farings are great and way to go if riding year-round in Mid-West,(me)once wiring and bracket is set takes about 20 minuts to take off but will not have light,This pic.has added lowers only my feet are in the wind & rain once I'm moving,I live out of town so it weorks great for me,back & forth to work(30min.)every day but leaving in heavy rain,AS I said once your moving Rain / cold is nothing Very well protected.

The sporty type like top pic.have bracket that holds headlamp so can be removed, like my spring one here

I'm making this setup bigger and more usefull

Re: Fairings

I'm on the central California coast.  Weather is fairly mild and I most definately WON'T be riding in the rain.  (At least not on purpose).  I'm just looking for something to block the wind.  Something easy to remove  would be good.   Thanks for the advice.
            Cheers,   Elliot

        Well ,
Your in my old back yard (born in Bay Area, some fam in Fresno)Central beach's Pismo to "THE BIG SUR"
Dang that bring back some great rides.Up north too,Redwood hwy, Mt.Shasta area can be a challenge.

Your only going to wont the sporty type ,Due to the fact If riding hwy 1 (done plenty) The wind coming out of the gorges can lift a bike with no warning, these bikes are light and tall in that aspect,Smaller best for you I believe,THX.for the quick memories.

The types shown in your photo mount to the handlebars.  The large, clear plastic units, tend to act as kites, catching the wind, and applying it's force to twisting your handlebars, for you.  The Vetter Windjammer model Piute has on his, is frame-mounted, applying the force of the winds to the frame, and the bike as a whole -- has very little effect on handling.

The Windjammers can be had off of e-Bay, and Craigslist.org, but they are not quick, or easy, to dismount.  They also create a bubble behind them, so the driver gets little air flow, on hot days.  Vents can be had/installed, to help.

For what you want, I would suggest no fairing:  the small, racer type in your photo, will do nothing to take the wind away from you when riding upright.  It would be cosmetic, only.  I would suggest investing in a quality riding jacket, or one-piece riding suit, if you can afford it.  There are mesh jackets for hot weather riding; one-piece suits tend to run in the $500-$1,000, but the high-end units can be put on/taken off, in around 10 seconds, they're waterproof, windproof, vented, and breathable.  A flip-top, vented helmet, with an internal sun visor, would be a wise investment, as well.  Cheers!
