Feels like a misfire between 2500-4000 rpm's

While riding and through all gears I feel a misfire(stutter or pulsing) between 2500 to 4000 rpm's.
While i'm holding the throttle in between the range stated this is felt or if I give slow or normal throttle acceleration. I can also give more throttle and get out of this stutter area with out a problem.
I can accelerate through all the gears quickly without any problems and wouldn't notice this issue.

The whole ignition system is new, I use 91 octane gas, Charging system is charging correctly, Battery is good, 105 jets

The bike starts, idles great and runs great under 2500 and above 4000 rpm's
I'm thinking its in the carbs.
What do you guys think?

gooch
Rij,

Two things come to mind to check first. I had a similar problem at around 3000 to 4200 RPM, Same type of stutter, almost like a flat spot, etc. I had a bad condensor on cylinder 1&4. ( it was also running rougher as it got hot) and I Synched my carbs.
Good luck my friend

I thought that year bike was electronic ignition without condensers? my bike will do this also sometimes...I am leaning to pulling carbs for full clean.

Yes, mine is a transistorized ignition system(electronic)  I have pulse generator and spark units.
Im going to check the clearance between the pulser generator coils and the tooth on rotor.

I just checked the timing and cant set it. I cant get a close enough reading.

Does this look like something is wrong?
I set the crank to the timing mark but the teeth on the rotor and pulsers don't line up.

I know how to set the timing I just cant get the marks close. I use my timing light and the mark lights up about 1/4 away from the mark and I cant adjust it closer.

The engine was rebuilt so maybe they set something wrong.

I doubt the problem I'm having with the stutter it related because it was doing that before the engine rebuild and I was able to set the timing with no problem.

This timing thing is just another concern I have.

I had an 83 DOHC Honda - and that bike's stutter was caused by the carbs - just needed a sync.

Oh - should have added - is there any chance that your spark advancer isn't free - that it is oiled and snaps back to base timing?
