Fork Seal issue HELP PLEASE!

txnnd
So I went to change my fork seals today, following Tools detailed instructions.  I got the allen bolt out of the bottom, no thanks to someone putting thread lock on it.  But the slides would NOT slide off the fork.  I took the snap ring out and slid it back and forth until the upper bushing and the seal were forced out by the lower bushing, and then it obviously slid right off.  This happened on both sides.

So, obviously it won't go back together, as you can't get the upper bushing (the one in the slide under the seal) to slide over the lower bushing, (the one on the bottom of the fork).

So now, I need to new bushings for the slide.  Where's the best place to get those?  And what in the world is wrong or did I do wrong?!

Thanks for the help!!!

You have to get the dust cap, snap ring, back up plate and seal on the fork tube in the proper order, and tied up high.  Then get the back up plate and bushings on in the proper position, and then put the slider on the tube.  Secure the slider with the bottom bolt.   Get a proper sized PVC pipe, and split it lengthwise.  Then get a slightly larger PVC pipe, split it, and use screw clamps to secure it as a retainer sleeve on the upper half of your original pipe.  Use that contraption to drive the seal in, then putting the rest of the goods in position and close it up.  Move and repeat.  I ended up having to pull the fairing off to get enough room to drive the seals in on the Oldwing.  I'm sure you can find a better discription of what I'm talking about somewhere on this forum.  I got the bushings from the dealership for the Oldwing.  My CB750 is a 79, and doesn't have the bushings, so your probably going to have to search local dealership, and some of the warehouse outfits like bike bandit.

You must have a later DOHC fork. I hope you did not damage the bushings, however if you did, you can get them from Honda. To do the DOHC forks with bushings, you first install the fork tube into the slider. The top bushing will need to be tapped in, I do this using a 1/4 drive extension as a punch since it fits nicely and has a blunt end. Then you slide the seal, and backing washer over the tube, and tap them down, again I use a 1/4 drive extension. Then the snap ring.
