Found some cracks in my tire -thoughts?

Half-Caf
So, when I removed my rear wheel I noticed some cracks in the sidewall. They are on both sides at the same point. I'm guessing its quite possibly due to just sitting all winter.

I don't know too much about tires, but do those of you who do have any input?

Looks to me like the rubber's getting old. I wouldn't trust 'em, myself.
Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?

Sometimes you see cracks pop up on a tire fairly quickly.Anything under about 1/2" (13mm) long and not very deep I always considered to be superficial.

But when you have a continuous crack all the way around the tire where the side wall and the tread meet, that seems pretty bad to me.

Is that what you have? A continuous crack all the way around? My eyes ain't real good

Get some black shoe polish and fill those cracks in. That's what Burt Monroe did in the movie "The Worlds Fastest Indian"

Looks like the date stamp says 2-8-04....that makes the tire over 8 years old.  I would change it.
In 1972 I had to make a choice...quit riding...or quit drinking.  God says it's safe to get back in the saddle now...at least I'm still alive...and feel more alive with the wind in my face!  Now riding "Helen Black"...1982  CB750SC.

Mikefoot said it, the tires are just under 8 years old. Manufacturers say to replace every 5-7 years.
