yep thats right.

but i'm confused about the frame shape..

i know that the CB 750 SOHC 1969-1977 got a different frame with the DOHC CB 750.

but is the DOHC CB 750 got a same frame shape? the one from early 80's till the late 90's..

i saw a cafe racer part from the http://www.benjiescaferacer.com/

but it says that its only for "Parts: Honda 1979-88 CB 750 DOHC"

that's why i'm confused, is it true that the frame are different..

I know that the SOHC engines (69-78) will fit into the DOHC frames (79-83). But the DOHC engine (79-83) will not fit into the SOHC frame (69-78). I have not had any experience with the newer (84, and later) DOHC bikes. However I would assume that they would fit into the 79-83 frame.

Just for the sake of accuracy I think the first DOHC came out in 79.

Confirming Peterwh's posting.  Some of the DOHC models came out late in 1978, but for all intents and purposes, the DOHC models ran from 1979 to 1983.

They ran after 83, but they were 16 valve instead of 8.

I actually own both (75 cb750 and 83 cb1000).From 79-83, the cb's (750,900,1000) ran a different frame from the 70's. the dohc sits up higher, so the frame sort of slopes over the engine, going into almost a dropped seat stature. The70's sohc frame sits straight and parallel with the ground. Im not sure how the 90's frames are set up, but as far as the 70's and 80's go, they are completely different frames. You can also google '82 cb750 frame" and so on with all of them and check out the difference. Im an avid cafe builder, so if you have anymore questions regarding cafes, just email me at clayweinand@yahoo.com. I became stumped left and right building mine!

I generally go with the thought that any type of style change had a corresponding frame change as well.
For instance, 69-78 had the same frame. 79-83 should be the same. 84-98 should be the same. And so on.
I am generalizing but this is normally how things go.
So, every time the model is redesigned, so is the frame.
