Frustrated With throttle

blueboy2679
I recently changed my raised grab on bars to a set of low rise drag bars...now my throttle wont return on its own. I have tried lubing, and I believe my next step is shortening my cables...any idea how short? or possibly a fix. LONG LIVE THE SS!

I had the same problem. Tried 2 sets of cables and never did figure out why. Finally had to remove the return cable.

thanks polymer...just one question...will the bike perform without the return cable? If it will, it is gone!

The return cable is a safety measure. It is all in your routing though. Re-angle the elbows in the cable at the throttle housing to point forward more, then run the cables around the front of the neck and then back. This usually works. otherwise, you can sometimes find shorter cables. I would be wary of making mine shorter on my own.
if you do that, keep the return then just in case.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

I re-routed the cables and adjusted the throttle grip and wa-la! I also replaced the old worn in-line fuel filter and lines...what a difference a simple fix can make...IT ACTUALLY PULLS THE FRONT TIRE NOW! And the drag bars make it so nice to ride...thanks everyone...i'll post some pics when I have it completely painted!

It will work but like re-run said it is a safety return. If the pull cable breaks it could stay at the position where it broke. That said, I've never had one to break and I don't know anyone that has.
I'd rather have it there just for piece of mind but I just couldn't get it to work. If his suggestion works let me know and I'll put mine back on and try it.
