Funny Sound - Need some Help Identifying

Cabreco
I need help identifying an odd sound, no more of a "feel" that Fiona is doing.

It doesn't seem to come up while riding at throttle (or maybe I don't hear it)
When I am coming to a stop (coasting), I feel a throbbing from the bike. What I thought was a pulsing brake. When I am coming to a stop it's more pronounced. I hear regardless of which brake I use independently (or no brakes at all) so I don't think its a brake issue. Tp describe it, it's a low "WOM WOM WOM" sound.

Nothing has change EXCEPT I did tighten Fiona's chain recently since it was slapping the chain guard. With me off the bike, I have a 1" slack.

As fall as tightening, I was tracking ok so I just turned in the adjusters 1/2 turn each side.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

I also have a buzzing sound from the front at throttle, but that's another story <lol>
Neither one of these problems effect the bike ride, just the feel.

Coming from the front or rear? Only when braking, not when cruising?
Turbos, Hondas, 4-bangers, what could go wrong?

Difficult but If I had to say, it seems to be the rear. Under throttle I don't hear it, but if I pull in the clutch when slowing down (no brakes) I will feel it. I think applying the brakes are just amplifying it.

I'm concerned it my be a wheel bearing or possible my rear brake dragging, but I only noticed it after I did the chain adjustment

It sounds like your chain, and sprockets are worn. Try loosening the chain to 1 1/2 inch play. See if it makes a difference.

The chain hasn't stretched much (I still have a lot of adjustment left) & ter rear sprocket looks good. The chain may need to be soaked & lubed.

I'l loosen her up to see if it improves since I only noticed the issue AFTER I adjusted it.

One thing I JUST notice (ok 2)
I put Fiona up on her center stand & put her in 1st. The rear wheel has a very slight wobble.
In addition to the wobble I check quickly & for several spokes are loose. Loose enough that they move.
Could this be my source or is this just icing on the cake?

Sure can't help. Get 'em tightened up, which will probably fix the wheel's out-of-round (spokes pull and straighten the rim) and check it out.

If it started after fooling with the chain I would say it is related.

As far as the buzzing at the front. My headlight did that. The trim ring was vibrating.I smushed some electrical tape in there and it cured it.I have heard of guys shoving foam behind the light bulb to tighten it up,but I would be concerned with it getting too hot.

Mine did too. Mine buzzed in gear even sitting still and anytime I throttled above idle. If yours will do it just by revving like mine did,rev it up and just hold things until you find whats vibrating.

Would anybody know what size spoke wrench I would need for the 81 750K?

Naa, I'm big on "The right Tool for the Job" I see they have a plethora of metric sizes
6mm, 6.3mm, & so on. Hopefully someone has the size for the stock spokes

Talk with a bike shop and ask.

I "THINK" I figured out this mystery sound.

#1 one of my drain hoses was flipped up & rubbing up against the tire & chain guard.

#2 my chain is slack at one point, & if I spin the wheel a little it gets tighter, then loosens up.
Although it is still in the beginnings of the markers I think some of the o rings are dry or cruddy.
Time to break out the Kerosene can & do some scrubbing & cleaning then re-oil. Hell I might even soak the sucker overnight.

I'm sure it's been discussed ad nauseum, but there are some chains that have O-rings in them.  Some spray lubricants have compounds in them that dissovle certain rubber pieces.  I can't see regular kerosene hurting a chain, but maybe some of the lubricants need to be O-ring friendly.

Good luck, and I hope you sort it out.

Loose spokes? I would not ride it period.

You need to take that wheel off and get it trued up before it all comes apart.
EVERY part of a motorcycle is important.

If anything comes undone it can KILL you.

To check that rear wheel take the chain OFF and then spin the wheel.

My FSM calls for cleaning the O-ring chain with Kerosene. So regular kerosene is fine.

My chain was lumping together the same way, so I cleaned it with kerosene and a brass brush - the brush was entirely ruined, but the chain was cleaned. I then put some Dupont Chain Saver on the chain, which is made for o-ring chains. Got it from Lowe's.

Haven't ridden yet though. But that is definitely one way to go about it.

I was following the owners manual as far as maintenance & lubing it with 90wt gear oil

But if Dupont Chain Saver is better, I'll use that. The manual IS over 30 years out of date <lol>

Lucky, Fiona is down until I fix this issue
(I guess I'll have to "suffer" riding the Venture Royale full time).

The rear wheel on Fiona does have a slight wobble, which I'm sure will EAT my NEW tires quickly!
Forget the bike being 33 years old, my old ass is 52 & old bones don't heal quickly!!!
I ordered a spoke wrench for her, will true that puppy up in no time!
I'll post results when done.

I did a -slight- bit of research on the Chain Saver vs other oils. Cleaning, I still go with the manual. Protecting, however, I decided the manual's too old to be of use.

You can also do a Google search for other stuff.
