Gasket Sealer?

Jreed615
I am polishing all y engine covers nd replacing the gaskets. I bought a gasket kit from CycleExchange, hopefully it is a good kit. They looked like a well organized place. I need to know are you suppose to use gasket sealer on the paper gaskets? Clutch cover, ignition cover, etc......

I don't think so. However, if you do, the honda sealer is good, I think it is just 3-bond.

It depends on weather or not you want to remove the covers. I would only put it on the cover side. If you ever need to replace the gasket it is easier to remove from the cover then the engine block.

Yeah, I think very sparing use is important and the ultimate thing is the make sure the surfaces are prepped very well.

Tools,

1) How well do most valve cover's fit onto the block?

2) If this fit seems off, would you recommend sealant on both sides of the cylinder head cover, or just one?

**The old gasket had sealant on the bottom and a little on the top. Would a compression test tell if there was a leak? How else could I tell?

What year and model bike are you talking about? Most valve covers fit the heads pretty nicely. However on SOHC engines I will use weatherstrip adhesive to glue the gasket to the valve cover, and leave the other side that goes to the head dry. On head gaskets, you NEVER use any sealant, and install them dry.

The valve cover didn't seem to fit cleanly on a dry check without the gasket. I've now put three bond on the cover and will install with the other side of the rubber gasket dry and see how she goes.
