Gasoline leaking from gas tank breather tube

ptiderman
Hi. I'm a brand new member. I own a 1979 Honda CB750K 10th Anniversary Edition MC. I love it! But, I am not very good about maintenance. I really want the bike to last. It is currently running OK. But, the last time I rode it, I discovered gasoline leaking from the gas tank breather tube (I think that's what the hose is called). When I parked it, the leak continued. But when I turn the petcock to "OFF", the leak stopped. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

You might want to make sure which pipe is leaking the gasoline.  If you leave the petcock on, and don't have the fuel manifold vacuum assembly in place (goes between the petcock and the carbs), you can expect the carb float bowls to overflow, and you should see fuel leaking from each of the overflow tubes on the carbs themselves.

I don't recall my CB750L having a vent tube on it, so it may have the vent function handled by the gas cap.

Pictures would help.

Thanks, Luke. I thought I only saw it coming from one tube. And that tube ran up to the tank. But I'll look it over more carefully. Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Back on 2 wheels after a 30+ year break. It's still fun, and just as scary as before.  I like it. Blocked image

No worries.  We'll sort it out. Maybe I was the one with a weird CB750L tank?

Could be your gas line. I had to replace mine this spring as it got hard and stiff.
Got a new 1/4 I.D. hose and now is seals great.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
