Handle bar controls

CB70
Hi everyone, new member here and looking forward to joining in on the party. I recently purchased an 82 cb750k and I'm hooked, I can't stop wanting to tweak it out. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is my first bike and first rebuild. Thank you, here's a photo of the bike.

I want to declutter the bars and eliminate the bulky control on the right hand side. I'm going to relocate the start button and got the plan push pull throttle control. I don't use the on/off switch for the motor, I normally turn it off with the key. What do I do about the two brake light wires for the brake lever. What do those guys do when they do this? I never see any hanging wires. I can't imagine not hooking it up and not having brake light when using the front brakes. Any suggestions?
I'm also working on making a custom seat.

Drill a 1/4 hole in the handlebars, as close as you can get to the control.
Drill another hole in the handlebars, bottom of bars, between the handlebar clamps.
Fish the wire thru.

Welcome to the forum! That is a really great looking bike you got there!

Fishing the wires thru the bar can be a pain, but it sure does look nice.

Good luck on your project!

Thanks, I googled it and found some really good ideas. I'll probably get some clip ons so that sound be much easier.

Heck, the one you have should be in there.

How's about a bit of History, a quick glimpse of where we came from.

maybe wiki up Aces Cafe, The Ton up Club, cafe' racers in general.

Interesting reading, I think so anyway.

Be careful with that thing.

That's a clip from the movie "The Leather Boys" 1963 I believe. What a cluster f#$% the start of that race was. Bump into each other while running for the bikes. Take time to give each other the thumbs up, while you Ol'Lady climbs on, then bump into each other while circling for takeoff. And if you look there is more clips of that movie on YouTube. I really like the one where he brags "I have racing pistons." Then they go out and race, but are doing all they can to keep from being passed by the lorries (trucks in England.) "Racing pistons?" I think they would have went faster if they had just painted flames on the bikes.

If I go with clip ons and go with the smooth triple tree what do I do with the fuse box? Where can I relocate that?

Lol! Is that a bad word? I'm new to this so not sure if that's a no no. I know there's much discussions about them and mixed thoughts. I haven't had much problems with them, maybe hard to start when cold. Otherwise, I can't complain. I'm guilty, I like the look.

The stock carbs kinda rely on the vacuum created by the restriction the stock air box gives
to lift the slides in the carbs.

Going to pods, you lose that, and increase airflow thru the motor.
So, you need to rejet, bigger to add more fuel to the mix.  Add the fact you have a DOHC,
double the valves, I'd guess they're pretty big in that thing.
Out of the norm.  (the exhaust you're running, even less restriction, bigger jets even for that).

All that only if they're stock carbs, KLEIN CVs.

No, ha, nothing wrong at all with them.
You're right, they take away the airbox, giving a more lean look.
Get that battery and fuse box hidden somewhere else, man, that would the stuff.

Also, don't use cheap pods: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=45863.0

Not saying yours are (I can't really tell), but you should read that post and decide for yourself.  Even on non CV carbs they can be problematic.

Thanks for the heads up, I honestly don't know what kind I have but I'll check. I understand there're some things you can skimp on but not something like this. I consider it an investment, it'll save me money down the line. Appreciate the word of advise sees

Time to get in on the dogpile here.

If you want to clean things up, the right side can go completely. You want to keep it all of course but you can easily move things around to shorten and hide wires. I DO suggest keeping the kill switch. It isn't common but it is possible for the key switch to go bad and not leave you a way to shut the bike off.

If you look on a site like dime city cycles, they have a much smaller unit that still has the kill on it but is maybe an inch wide instead of 2 or more. You already have the idea of running wires through the bars.

The left control you can do much about. You might be able to get a smaller unit but you need those controls, possibly for legal reasons.

You have talked about pods but CV carbs and pods are not the best of friends. A breadbox style airbox might be a good alternative. Something like this: http://www.thechopperunderground.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69919 Scroll down a bit.

The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
