Headlight doesn't come on...

poisonfox
The headlight on my 1981 CB750K went out a little while ago. Naturally, I assumed it had burned out, but when I replaced it I still had no joy...
Every other light still works as advertised and the fuses look fine as well. Is this a relay issue y'think? If so, can I repair it or am I searching for parts on FleaBay?
What say you?

Have you checked to make sure you're getting power to the light?  Do you have a voltage tester?

Check the starter button. It is wired, so that when the starter is activated, the headlight goes out. Then when the button is released the headlight comes back on. This is, so the starter will get as much juice as is possible. I have had the buttons go bad, and cause the headlight to not come on.

I know that my headlight switch had stopped working because the contact points weren't contacting properly, I pulled the switch apart and checked to make sure the headlight was working by taking a short wire and jumpered between the 3 wires going to the switch (low beam to ground and then high beam to ground), and the headlight would come on.

Thanks for the tips! I'll check it with my Voltmeter and see if there's any juice flowing. The ignition switch is also something to check as well. I figured it was the relay since all the other lights work normally and that the Hi and Lo failed at the same time.

So, I checked where the bulb plugs in and verified a lack of current to the headlight. I'll check futher back tonight and see where it stops.

Hey all, sorry for the wait! (things have been busy.) Turns out it was the Hi/Lo switch. contacts wore out so the light won't come on at all. Guess I'll solder the the Lo beams to on until I can find a replacement switch...

Oh well, mystery solved!
