Hello, I' m new here

jellard
I was working for a guy out on his property who happens to have quite a few junk cars and what not around one barn. Long story short, I ended up talking him out of this 78 cb750 which was obviously forgotten about. In fact, he just gave it to me. It was last running ten years ago. There is a bit of rust and quite a lot of dirt. The chain needs to be replaced. Heck I'm sure a lot needs to be replaced. But I think it looks awesome :) And it was free. If it's free, it's for me. My neighbor who has a 2012 harley-davidson asked me if i dragged it out of the lake on my trot line or something. HA! This is my first bike. So I look forward to this project and glad that I've managed upon this site where so much information is at hand. I will start a tread and put up some pictures. I am already getting in trouble with the girlfriend and it's only day 2. Wish me luck fellas. LMAO

Welcome to the forum! You'll find a lot of info here to help with the rebuild as well as other's build threads which may give you some ideas.

The folks here are great answering questions and such, very friendly. They'll even point you to the other forum which has a lot of good technical info, you just can't ask questions over there.

Good luck with the build.

Welcome to our happy little playground.

The search feature on this forum is a very handy tool.  Use it wisely, and use it a lot.

Barn finds can be fun, and frustrating, and potentially expensive.  One question you have to ask is: Why was it sitting in a barn for so long?  Did it die and someone thought they'd get to it later?  Did they just get tired of it?  Did they crash it in a horrible mixture of speed, wet pavement, and bad riding skills?

Yes, I'm kidding on that last one.  Step one would be to get some light on the bike, and see what it looks like.  Hose it down, trying to keep water and dirt out of the expensive parts like electrical, carbs, etc.  Check the frame thoroughly to see where the rust is, and if it's a good candidate for continuing.

Is everything there: carbs, airbox, electrics, seat, brakes, etc?

Once you decide what to do with it, check back, and we'll walk you through how to check the health of the various systems.  We'll help if we can, right folx?

Thanks! This guy has several brand new bikes. He had planned to sell this one but never got around to it. Everything is there, but the side panels are broken.  No Biggie. Realized my need for a good quality Philips head. I've managed to remove the air cleaner box, and the carburetors. After getting a good look at the frame and everything else I am pleased and plan to continue on. I'll start a thread over on member bikes or wherever so you can see what I'm getting into. Thanks Icerigger for welcoming me. I have gotten a ton of use out of the threads in the forum and I've clicked the search button a hundred times already :D

thanks shlutz. I can't wait to be able to ride this bike! I'm guilty of sitting on it and pretending. I started a thread under the members builds area. some pictures there.
